Status of Our Efforts

Warren and Amadou have a group of eight individuals (four in greater Manchester and four in the Wolfeboro area) that will seek to sponsor the extended family for immigration (currently seven Hazaras—eight upon the expected birth of Ali and Rana’s second son in the fall).

  Wolfeboro Area                                   Manchester Area

     Sarah Day                                          Amadou Hamady

    Marge Mueller                                          Tina Proulx

     Warren Muir                                           Heidi Traeger

     Grace Trites                                            Mark Traeger

These efforts are also supported by the All Saints parish and network of individuals in the Manchester area willing to welcome to Manchester, to help get them settled, to integrate into the community, and to become self-sufficient within three months. Mary, the retired professor in Utah “employing” Ali on the international botanical websites will also seek to get him a job using his programing abilities with appropriate compensation if he successfully immigrates to the US.

We estimate that to sponsor the seven (soon eight) Afghan Hazaras will require raising about $30,000 to $35,000 before their arrival. The Welcome Corps group must show its fundraising ability before the group will be approved by the US State Department to sponsor the family by raising $12,000 or more before applying.

All Saints Episcopal Church in Wolfeboro has established a dedicated Afghan Refugee Welcome Corps Fund to receive tax-deductible contributions supporting the effort.

Required for Welcome Corps group approval (needed prior to formal application): $12,000.
Estimated total (needed prior to the refugees’ arrival): $30,000 to $35,000.

The current balance of the fund is- $12,000.

The family is not aware of the US Welcome Corps Program nor of our efforts to sponsor them to legally immigrate to NH. Our efforts are not certain to work. If they do, it is likely to take more than a year (perhaps years) to get all of them cleared through vetting. So, we don’t want them to get their hopes too high until we are certain they will be considered for the opportunity to immigrate to the US. They have enough stresses and burdens dealing with their daily lives.

Sarah Day and Warren Muir will provide updates in All Saints weekly E-News. (Go to allsaints@metrocast.net to be added to the weekly E-News emails) and on this website to keep everyone interested up to date.
